StarCraft 2 Is Coming

StarCraft 2 is due to crash into store shelves in July. Everything that you know and love from the original StarCraft comes back and explodes into another dimension of distinction, from updated graphics and controls to the fast paced, supercharged dynamic gameplay. StarCraft is one of the most beloved Blizzard games in existence, and fans have been clamoring for news of a release of the next chapter in the StarCraft universe for over a decade, and they finally have it. Continue the legendary story of the Protoss, Terran, and Zerg races as they again battle for territory, dominance, and power. StarCraft 2 takes place roughly four years after the events in StarCraft: Brood War, the best-selling expansion pack for StarCraft. As of May 31st, 2007, both StarCraft and StarCraft: Brood War combined have sold more than ten million copies worldwide.

StarCraft 2 will be released simultaneously on both Windows and Mac OS X platforms, a rare thing indeed but gaining in popularity. Macs were made to play these types of games, and Macheads are bursting at the seams with excitement.

Sam Didier, art director for StarCraft 2, has done an excellent job by balancing powerful, playable units across all races. The arguably less powerful race in the game–the Terrans–have a unit called “The Thor,” a gigantic walking mech with huge cannons on its back that is able to defend against air attacks, is extremely difficult to take down, and can absorb tons of damage on the front lines, enabling lighter and smaller marines into battle more efficiently.

Both the single player and multiplayer components of the game have been significantly upgraded, and Battle.net–the official multiplayer online portal–is set for action with Battle.net v2.0. Blizzard will release StarCraft 2 on July 27.
